In a groundbreaking move, the United States has taken a serious step toward sustainability with the launch of the Slow Fashion Caucus. This first-ever congressional effort, led by Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) alongside Reps. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.) and Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-Calif.), was unveiled in July to address pollution and exploitation plaguing the fast fashion industry.

Driven by looming headlines, increasing consumer demand, and the desire for a circular economy, minimizing waste via recycling and reuse is not just a trend: it’s an expectation. On March 6, 2024, the Securities and Exchange Commission adopted final rules to require registrants to disclose certain climate-related information in registration statements and annual reports. The Commission proposed the rules on March 21, 2022. The public comment file is available online.
